It is always a privilege to present the latest vintage of the wine Clos Martinet, all the more so in its Magnum format. Made by Mas Martinet Viticultors, this impressive Spanish red wine was one of the five original "Clos" wines that started the Priorat renaissance.
This blended Crianza red wine was originally conceived by Josep Lluís Pérez, a Priorat pioneer and the founder of a wine dinasty that today continues with his daughter, the amazingly talented Sara Pérez.
A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the grapes are sourced from 7 hectares of organically grown vineyards with slate soils located near Falset.
Meticulously harvested, the grapes were vinified in concrete vats. Afterwards, the red wine Clos Martinet 2023 Magnum went through a complex ageing process, which took place in concrete diposits, oak vats, French oak barrels, glass demijohns and clay vessels.
This world-class organic red wine should improve for many years in its 1.5 litre bottle.
Decant this Priorat red wine at least 2 hours before drinking.
Extremely limited availability.
| Appearance | The red wine Clos Martinet Magnum is medium purple with a violet hue at the rim. |
|---|---|
| Nose | Deep, resounding aromas of ripe forest berries, along with a dark, impressive minerality and some watery and earthy notes, and hints of spices. The nose of this blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot also carries notes of Mediterranean forest, blue flowers, chocolate and toast. |
| Palate | This wine from Mas Martinet winery in a Magnum bottle is deep and structured, but nonetheless more agile and approachable than one might expect, showing nuance and subtlety. There has certainly been an evolution in style towards freshness, which has definitely benefited the wine. Long, complex finish, reminiscent of flowers, graphite and wet stones. |
| Our personal opinion | Right now, the wine Clos Martinet 2023 Magnum is quite impressive. Within a few years, it will be a thing of absolute beauty. |
