Details

This is the new vintage of Elías Mora Descarte, an intense, crisp Spanish red wine wine that was first produced out of sheer chance by Bodega Elías Mora some years ago.

This wine is made from Tinta de Toro grapes sourced from north-oriented, 45-year old vineyards. In principle, those grapes were destined to the Crianza wine.

However, once the vinification process was finished the oenologists of the Elías Mora winery realised that the wine had a distinctive personality. Thus, they decided to age the wine in French oak barrels for a period of 12 months in order to preserve its freshness and purity.

Produced in the increasingly interesting region of ToroElías Mora Descarte 2017 should have a fruitful evolution in the bottle.

Decant this red wine from Toro some time before drinking.

Pair with cold cuts, smoked foods, oily fish recipes and game dishes.

Appearance

The wine Elías Mora Descarte is medium purple with a garnet rim and some violet glints.

Nose This varietal Tinta de Toro smells of wild strawberries, blueberries, aromatic herbs, laurel, graphite and petrol. In the background, this Crianza red wine suggests notes of cedar, toast and a dash of tobacco.

Palate

This wine of bodega Elías Mora has a remarkable acidity, nice tension and focus and some ripe tannins. Long finish with gentle remembrances of underbrush and black fruit with some mineral undertones.

Our personal opinion

In contrast with many wines produced in Toro, Elías Mora Descarte 2017 is defined by its freshness and drinkability.

Very interesting. Tinta de Toro has a sort of brutal, in-your-face honesty which some may find off-putting, but that I, for one, happen to enjoy. A wine with no filters in the best possible sense.

Dark and deep, with intense tannins and a fragrance of earth, burnt sugar, flowers and black fruit. Will live quite for quite a long time.
