Produced by Celler Vinyes Domenech, the red wine Empelts de Garnatxa Peluda is the result of an interesting process aimed at preserving some precious genetic material.
In 2011, cuttings of Hairy Grenache sorted from the old, high-quality vines used to produce Teixar, the winery's flaghsip Spanish red wine, were grafted onto old Cabernet Sauvignon rootstocks planted in clayey-limestone soils. This organic red wine from DO Montsant is produced from those grafted vines.
Picked by hand and meticulously selected at the vineyard, the grapes were macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After that, the red wine Empelts de Garnatxa Peluda 2022 was aged in new and used French oak barrels for 12 months.
The production of this red wine from Montsant is very limited.
