Details

Produced by Bodegas Aragonesas, the wine Fagus is a varietal Grenache wine from DO Campo de Borja, Aragón

Interestingly, this Spanish red wine is produced from old vines, 40 to 50 years old, that yield 1 kilogram of fruit per plant at most.

Harvested at their optimal ripening state, the grapes were fermented and then macerated with the skins for over a period of three weeks. Malolactic fermentation took place in French oak barrels. After that, this Crianza red wine was aged for a period of 9 months.

Finally, the wine Fagus 2021 was aged for a further months in the cellar prior to its release.

A little-known jewel, this red wine from Campo de Borja should be aerated 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Fagus is medium purple with a ruby rim.

Nose

The aromas of this varietal Grenache wine are enticing. Red fruit and jammy wild berries, underpinned by some mineral notions, dim wooden aromas, a dash of spices, cocoa and coffee, and some remembrances of balsam, menthol and sweeties.

Palate

Elegant, powerful and well-balanced, this red wine of Bodegas Aragonesas has a meaty texture and a very good acidity. Notes of tobacco, chocolate, juicy red fruit and spices. Smooth passage, crunchy tannins and long finish with some delicately bitter and toasted remembrances.

Our personal opinion

An ode to Grenache, the wine Fagus 2021 from DO Campo de Borja is complex, characteristic and seductive.

Fag... oh my!!
Value
An excellent wine with, as the previous reviewer said, a name that does it little favor in the English-speakling world. And a real shame it is, because this garnacha is earthy and profound. It is the dream companion of game dishes and the texture is superb.

funny name

For obvious reasons, the winery should change the name of this wine for the English-speaking countries. Even more so because the wine is a class-act. It is full-bodied, better after every sip and good priced.
