This phenomenal Crianza red wine by the Ferrer Bobet winery is made from low-yielding, over 100-years-old Carignan vines planted on steep slate slopes in the heart of DOQ Priorat.

The near-perfect 2021 vintage, incidentally, is considered one of the best in the recent history of the Priorat region.

The Carignan variety can sometimes be inexpressive during its youth. However, the passing of time exponentially enhances its qualities. This is why a very old-vines Carignan conveys like no other variety the deeply mineral llicorella soils of the Priorat region.

After two selection processes the alcoholic fermentation of the hand-picked grapes was made in 15 and 30 hl. wooden vats. Malolactic fermentation, followed by an 18-month ageing period were carried out in fine grain French oak barrels.

Bottled unfined and unfiltered, the red wine Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles 2021 was stored for no less than 24 months before hitting the market.
