Crianza red wine from Arribes. Varietal Juan García (native variety) aged for 10 months in used French oak barrels.
Availability: In stock
Produced by Bodega Frontio, the personal project of Dane Thyge Benned Jensen, the red wine Frontio Bébeme comes from DO Arribes, a little-known wine region along the banks of the Duero river, right on the border with Portugal, in the northern Spanish province of Zamora.
This varietal Spanish red wine is made solely from Juan García, a recovered indigenous red variety that produces light-bodied and aromatic wines with moderate alcohol content. Having virtually no equivalents in Spain, Juan García can be compared to the Poulsard variety from France or Freisa from Italy.
The grapes are sourced from old vineyards, some of which are over 100 years old, composed of gravel and quartz soils and located in the southern area of the Zamora province.
Hand-picked and meticulously selected, the grapes went through a full-cluster fermentation in plastic bins with native yeasts. After that, this red wine from Arribes went through a spontaneous malolactic fermentation.
Then the red wine Frontio Bébeme 2023 was transferred into used French oak barrels and aged for 10 months. It was bottled in August 2024.
This small-batch Crianza red wine is one of the most characterful and atypical Spanish wines you're likely to encounter.
Only 1,012 bottles produced.
| Appearance | The red wine Frontio Bébeme is medium ruby with some violet reflections. |
|---|---|
| Nose | Compelling aromatic profile of sour cherries and strawberry leaf, two defining features of the amazing Juan García grape, and stony minerality, with intimations of flowers and a balsamic note. |
| Palate | PIthy and free-breathing, this wine of Bodega Frontio feels amazingly pure, with almost unnoticeable alcohol, fine tannins and stupendous freshness. Light-bodied, with sour red berries and flowers, and watery note and a mineral undercurrent. Long, suggestive finish. |
| Our personal opinion | For sure the most original Spanish red we've come across in a long while, the wine Frontonio Bébeme 2023 is just thrilling. |
