Details

Made by bodega El Paraguas, a small-batch winery from DO Ribeiro, the white wine La Sombrilla is made mostly from Treixadura, Ribeiro's principal grape variety, nuanced by a droplet of Albariño (4%).

This Spanish white wine is sourced from a single vineyard with clay-granite soils, called A Castiñeira. The 2-hectare plot was planted in 1997 near the village of Ribadavia, between 214 and 272 metres of altitude. The area has an Atlantic climate with a Continental influence.

After a meticulous harvest, 60% of the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks. The other 40% went through the process in 600-litre Burgundian oak barrels, where this white wine from Ribeiro was then aged for 6 months on lees. The meticulous winemaking process was closely monitored by prestigious Galician winemaker Felicísimo Pita.

The white wine La Sombrilla 2023 was bottled in April 2025.

1,982 bottles produced.

Appearance

The white wine La Sombrilla is medium straw with some amberish reflections.

Nose

Complex and refined, this wine from Treixadura and Albariño showcases citrus honey, ripe pear, salted butter and fine lees, with some vainilla and cedar undertones and a dash of balsam and flowers.

Palate

Clean, textured and precise, with a noticeable mineral edge to the bone and white fruit, a steely acidity, Atlantic freshness and a slowly unfurling complexity. This wine from bodega El Paraguas ends with a spicy and smokey note.

Our personal opinion

The wine La Sombrilla 2023 is a distinguished Ribeiro white wine that should develop nicely in the bottle over the next years.
