Red Wine Lo Piot 2017
Availability: In stock
Produced by Celler Cesca Vicent, Lo Piot is, like most of the products of this family winery, a Spanish red wine made from a blend of several grape varieties. The two main components are Grenache and Merlot, complemented with Carignan and Syrah. All come from organically certified vineyards.
The grapes were sorted from over 30-year-old vines planted in steep slopes with slate and rocky soils in the Montsant river basin, near the village of Gratallops, in the heart of Priorat. The 2017 vintage is, incidentally, the first bearing the label Vi de Vila de Gratallops.
Harvest commenced at the beginning of September and went on until the first half of October. Once in the cellar, the hand-picked grapes were macerated with the skins at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks. Then this organic red wine was fermented for a substantial period of time. During the process, the wine was racked twice a day.
After that, Lo Piot 2017 was transferred into French oak barrels, where it was aged for 12 months. The wine was bottled after a gentle filtration, and it was aged for a further 12 months in the bottle before its commercial release.
Decant his red wine from Priorat 1 hour before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Lo Piot is deep ruby with a violet rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Powerful and expressive, but not lacking in subtlety. This blend of Grenache, Merlot, Carignan and Syrah smells of blueberries and blackberries, with tips of licorice and tar, some spicy nuances and some mineral hints. |
Palate | Full-bodied and deep, with some toasted notes, a mineral pulse and loads of red and black fruit. This wine of Celler Cesca Vicent has a crisp acidity and some savoury tannins. The wine has a long finish, where fruit, spices and minerality merge in an harmonious way. |
Our personal opinion | The many lovers of wonderful Priorat will be delighted by the character of Lo Piot 2017. |
