Produced by Celler Cesca Vicent, the wine Lo Piot is, like most of the products of this family winery, a Spanish red wine made from a blend of several grape varieties. The two main components are Grenache and Merlot, complemented with Carignan and Syrah. All come from organically certified vineyards.
The grapes were sorted from over 30-year-old vines planted in steep slopes with slate and rocky soils in the Montsant river basin, near the village of Gratallops, in the heart of Priorat. That's why the wine bears the label Vi de Vila de Gratallops.
Once in the cellar, the hand-picked grapes were macerated with the skins at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks. Then this organic red wine was fermented for a substantial period of time. During the process, the wine was racked twice a day.
After that, the wine Lo Piot 2018 was transferred into French oak barrels, where it was aged for 12 months. The wine was bottled after a gentle filtration, and it was aged for a further 12 months in the bottle before its commercial release.
