Produced by bodega Los Insensatos de la Antehojuela - "los insensatos", by the way, means "the foolish ones" - the wine Los Insensatos Charlaúra is a rare and highly interesting Spanish white wine from DO Montilla-Moriles.
The most "foolish" of all the wines produced by this recently founded winery, this white wine from Montilla-Moriles is not made from Pedro Ximénez, as one may expect. Instead, it was sourced solely from southwest and northwest-facing Chardonnay vineyards situated in Sierra de Montilla, at 480 metres of altitude.
Hand-harvested, destemmed and crushed before being gently pressed with a pneumatic press, the grapes were drawn-off for 24 to 48 hours. After that, this Crianza white wine was fermented in French oak barrels.
Once the process was completed, the wine Los Insensatos Charlaúra 2023 was aged for 10 months on lees in the barrels with periodic stirrings.
Balanced, complex and unconventional, this Chardonnay from Montilla-Moriles is a stunner.
