Proelio Puerto Rubio 2019
One of the two top-shelf Spanish red wines of Bodegas Palacios Vinos de Finca-Proelio, the wine Proelio Puerto Rubio is sourced solely from the vineyard of the same name, Puerto Rubio, situated in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, DOCa Rioja, at roughly 500 metres of altitude.
Classified as Viñedo Singular de la Rioja (Rioja's singular vineyard), Puerto Rubio is planted with 50 to 60-year-old vines coming from very old clones of Tempranillo
Once in the cellar, the hand-picked grapes were kept at 5ºC for 12 hours before being selected. Then this red wine from La Rioja was fermented using native yeasts with 60% of the stems, during which process the solid skin cap was punched down periodically.
After completing malolactic fermentation in a 4,000-litre oak vat, the red wine Proelio Puerto Rubio 2019 was transferred into 2,000-litre French oak vats, where it was aged for 18 months.
Before being bottled, this Crianza red wine was stabilized in a 4,000-litre oak vat.

| Nose | This is an impressively deep varietal Tempranillo, packed with ripe bilberries, blackcurrants and boysenberries. There is a tarry undercurrent, with a note of liquorice and a rich spicy background, entwined with a suggestion of violets, forest floor and dry earth. |
| Palate | This Crianza wine from Bodegas Palacios Vinos de Finca-Proelio is lush, ripe and meaty, with fine-grained tannins and well-integrated spicy oak. There is a remembrance of kirsch and crème de cassis, with a solid, steely acidity and a long finish with some earthy and balsamic remembrances. |
