Product Description
Details

The 2018 vintage of Santbru is a blend of old-vine Carignan, Grenache and a dollop of Syrah. This is the best-known Spanish red wine of Portal del Montsant, a winery which belongs to the new 15Bodegas project.

The grapes are sourced from five parcels with sandy-limestone soils at altitudes between 700 and 800 metres above sea level, scattered over several villages in DO Montsant.

Each variety was harvested by hand and separately vinified in stainless steel tanks. After completing alcoholic fermentation, the grapes were macerated for a substantial period of time.

After that, Santbru 2018 was aged for 16 months in 225 and 500-litre French oak barrels.

Finally, this Crianza red wine was further aged in deposits so all the parts could fully come together.

Decant this red wine from Montsant 1 hour before drinking.

Nose

This blend of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah is quite rich, with aromas of black fruit and bitter cocoa, with notes of Eastern spices, toast, Mediterranean undergrowth, menthol, lavender and dry earth.

Palate

Crisp and expressive, this red wine from bodega Portal del Montsant has focus and a good definition. Smooth-bodied, with an excellent acidity and velvety tannins. Long, complex finish.

Our personal opinion

Elegant and powerful, Santbru 2018 is a wine which deserves to be widely known and appreciated.

Santbru has, besides the juicy fruit, that-to me-extremely appealing mixture of orange peel and cola which I sometimes find in Montsant reds.

Excellent wine. Texture is subtle, and it has depth and freshness. Very long finish.
