Product Description
Details

Bearing the VT Mallorca label, the exquisite red wine Sòtil is produced by the Mesquida Mora winery.

A varietal Callet, this Spanish red wine showcases the remarkable qualities of Mallorca's most important indigenous red grape.

The grapes were farmed following biodynamic principles and the traditional almanac lunar cycle. The vineyard has a natural cover which helps to protect the plants. The vines are also fertilized by natural mulches from the area containing native minerals. This biodynamic fertilizer is also infused with medical herbs to help boost the strength of the roots.

The harvest was carried out by hand. After that, this red wine from Mallorca was macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks.

After malolactic fermentation was completed, Sòtil 2020 was transferred to French oak barrels where it was aged for 10 months.

Only 3,000 bottles produced.

Appearance

The red wine Sòtil is pale ruby with a reddish rim.

Nose

This varietal Callet is really subtle and refined. Nuanced aromas of wild berries and flowers, with a pinch of cinnamon, citrus fennel and sandalwood, and some enticing tips of liquorice over a dimly mineral background.

Palate

Fresh and fluid, with great flair and sophistication. This wine from bodega Mesquida Mora is reminiscent of forest berries, with some balsamic hints, suggestions of spices (cinnamon, fragrant Jamaican peppers), some chiseled tannins, sweet and very pleasant, and a good acidity. Layered and focused, it has a long finish, with an aftertaste of flowers, spices, and an earthy note.

Our personal opinion

The excellent Sòtil 2020 spearheads the new wave of Majorcan wines, which aim to express the great potential of the island's native grapes.

Majorcan wines are getting closer. They're not there already, but the goal is near. This is excellent but, come on, forget Pinot and let Callet speak for itself. It needs no crutches.
