Details

Not surprisingly, a variety as versatile as Syrah can feel at home even in a sun-baked wine producing region.

Coming from the Andalusian region of Cádiz, the southernmost part of mainland Spain, the red wine Taberner proves the former claim conclusively.

Picked by hand, the grapes were selected at the vineyard, brought to the cellar in little boxes and selected again. After that, the "surviving" grapes were destemmed and vinified in stainless steel tanks.

Once the process was completed, this Spanish red wine was transferred into French oak barrels. After that, Taberner 2017 from the Huerta de Albalá winery completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for over a period of 18 months.

Finally, this red wine from Cádiz from was gently clarified with egg whites prior to its bottling.

We suggest that you decant this Crianza red wine 1 hour before you drink it, so you can experience its remarkable complexity.

Additional Information
Additional Information
Appearance The red wine Taberner is medium purple with a reddish and maroon rim.

Nose

This varietal Syrah is all about black fruit, nuanced by surprising notes of chocolate and tapenade. As the wine is exposed to air, there appear aromas of balsam and eucalyptus, alongside some creamy, nicely integrated wooden notions and some mineral remembrances.

Palate

Bold an elegant, this wine from bodega Huerta de Albalá entices the palate with exuberant flavours of wild berries, some creamy sensations, hints of balsam, menthol and underbrush, and a touch of spices and salt. Ripe tannins, good acidity and long, succulent finish. Great job!

Our personal opinion

Not only is Andalusia the land of Sherries, Manzanillas and Creams. Taberner 2017 shows that the region is also capable of producing quality red wines.

Syrah oddity
Value
Commanding wine. It defines a set of conditions and works perfectly within that frame. By this I mean that this Syrah, despite being entirely unlike those from the Rhône or Valais, is a highly-functioning oddity.

Value
Definitely worth buying. Superbly crafted, alcohol lays on the background and goes unnoticed. This is all about smoothness, fruit, freshness and texture. Enjoyable till the last drop.
