Details
Termanthia 2017
The iconic wine Termanthia is made from Tinta de Toro grapes sourced from ungrafted pre-phylloxera vines 120+ years of age, planted at an 850 metres above sea level, in the heart of DO Toro.
This one-of-a-kind Spanish red wine of the Numanthia winery - a branch of the LVMH luxury group - was vinified with the utmost care. After a meticulous harvest, the grapes were crushed by foot, fermented in truncated cone-shaped French oak barrels of different sizes and macerated with the skins for roughly three weeks.
After that, this red wine from Toro underwent malolactic fermentation in oak barrels.
Then the red wine Termanthia 2017 was aged into 80% new French oak barrels for a period of 20 months.
Finally, this Reserva red wine was bottled unfiltered in July 2019 and kept in the cellar for 60 months before its commercial release.
Decant this wine made from pre-phylloxera vines minimum of 4 hours before drinking.
| Appearance | The red wine Termanthia is deep purple with some blackish and ink-coloured nuances. |
|---|---|
| Nose | Impressively rich, this Tinta de Toro suggests lively forest berries with a myriad of spicy suggestions, elegant wooden notions and delicate notes of rose petals and lavender, underscored by an imposing, but nonetheless restrained minerality. |
| Palate | This red wine from Toro of Bodega Numanthia is bold and amazingly dense and concentrated and impressively balanced. Acidity is nothing short of exceptional, as well as the tannins and the overall structure. Layered, balanced and amazingly long, with a resounding mineral aftertaste. |
| Our personal opinion | The wine Termanthia 2017 is a modern legend of Spanish wine. |
