Viña Ardanza Reserva 2020
The 2020 vintage of the red wine Viña Ardanza Reserva of bodega La Rioja Alta is as compelling as the previous ones.
As usual, this blended Spanish red wine from La Rioja is made from Tempranillo and a lesser amount of Grenache.
The Tempranillo grapes are sourced from two 30-year-old vineyards: “La Cuesta” and “Montecillo”, located in the towns of Fuenmayor and Cenicero, Rioja Alta. The Grenache comes from a vineyard at 550 metres of altitude located in Tudelilla, Rioja Baja.
Vinification and ageing of each varietal were carried out separately. The Tempranillo spent 36 months in 3rd year American oak barrels, while Grenache was aged for 30 months, also in used American oak barrels. Manual rackings were performed several times throughout the winemaking process.
Finally, the red wine Viña Ardanza Reserva 2020 was bottled in November 2024 and and aged for no less 16 months before hitting the market.
It is advisable to aerate this Reserva red wine from La Rioja at least 40 minutes before drinking.

| Palate | After a gentle, smooth entrance, this wine from La Rioja Alta shows a generous, yet supple body. Ripe red fruit, some balsamic notes, undergrowth and hints of liquorice and Jamaica pepper. Excellent balance with gentle, well-integrated tannins and a tight structure. Great length and a complex aftertaste of sandalwood and Eastern spices. |
