Albilla de Manchuela

Albilla de Manchuela

A rare white variety from Central Spain.

The white variety Albilla de Manchuela (not to be confused with Albillo Mayor from Ribera del DueroAlbillo Real from Gredos and Albillo Criollo from the Canary Islands, is a rare white grape that is indigenous to the Meseta Central (the interior plateau of the Iberian Peninsula).

The Albilla variety is mainly grown in the DO Manchuela, a designation of origin that spreads across the Albacete and Cuenca provinces. Bodegas Ponce, the main quality producer in the region, has played a key role in recovering and bringing public attention to the variety.

An early to medium ripening variety, Albilla de Manchuela shows good resistance to draught, but a high sensitivity to botrytis and mildew. The wines made from Albilla are stuctured and expressive, with a balanced acidity and typical aromas of citrus, honey and apple.

The synonyms of Albilla de Manchuela are Albilla, Albilla de Albacete and Albillo del Pozo.
