Bodegas Rodero

A family winery with deep roots in Ribera del Duero.
The story of Bodegas Carmelo Rodero began in 1991, when Ribera-born Carmelo Rodero made the first wines under his namesake brand. From the beginning, Mr. Rodero was helped by his wife, Elena, and their siblings, Beatriz and María. The second generation of the family, the two sisters took over the helm of the Carmelo Rodero winery from Ribera del Duero a few years ago, thus ensuring the continuity of the project and opening the door to a promising future.
Located on the vicinity of Cuesta Manvirgo, between 820 and 890 metres of altitude, the estate vineyards of Bodega Rodero cover around 170 hectares, with a great diversity of microclimates. The soils, very poor and mildly alkaline, are basically clayey, with some limestone, rocky and sandy components. The climate is a mixture of Atlantic and Continental elements, with dry summers, harsh winters and great temperature differences between daytime and nighttime, a factor that favours a slow and
steady ripening of the grapes. Average temperature is 13ºC, and rainfall is 450mm/year on average.
The wines of Rodero winery are made from three grape varieties: Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Each parcel is individually vinified, and the grapes are transferred into stainless steel tanks using the patented OVI system, which works by gravity to prevent excessive manipulation and grape bruising. Once alcoholic fermentation is completed, the wines are matured in fine-grain Frech oak barrels for variable amounts of time.
The product portfolio of Bodega Rodero is comprised solely of red wines, with the Tempranillo variety playing the lead role. Although all of them are interesting, two are particularly noteworthy: the Crianza, which offers impressive value for money, and Pago Valtarreña, a top-shelf red made only in exceptional vintages.
