Coca i Fitó

Founded in 2006, bodega Coca i Fitó is the joint project of Toni and Miquel Coca, two siblings born into an agricultural family from Alt Penedès. An oenologist by trade, Toni Coca is the company's chief winemaker; Miquel Coca, the younger brother, is responsible for sales and marketing.

The headquarters of bodega Coca i Fitó are located in the village of El Masroig, in the southern part of the DO Montsant. The Coca i Fitó vineyards cover a surface area of roughly 30 hectares, spread across 20 parcels with basically five soil types: clay – red and white -, limestone, sand, granite and slate. The area has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers, and it benefits from the cooling effect of the mountain and sea winds.

Bodega Coca i Fitó grows mainly the traditional Montsant varieties, namely Grenache and Carignan, complemented with Macabeo and the international grapes Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The land is tended following organic and biodynamic techniques, and vineyard practices are designed to maintain the ecological balance, minimizing the environmental impact and maximizing efficiency in water managing.

The wines from the Coca i Fitó winery are typically vinified with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks and, to a lesser extent, concrete diposits and wooden tanks. Aging usually takes place in French oak barrels, and also in American oak barrels. The wine portfolio of Coca i Fitó winery comprises, among others, the red wine Coca Fitó – one of the bottlings of the Vins de Finca collection – and blends like the red wine Coca i Fitó Maragda.

Besides the Coca i Fitó wines from DO Montsant, the winery also produces Coca i Fitó wines in the DO Terra Alta and other Spanish regions, where the wines are marketed under the following brands: Tocat de l’Ala in the DO Empordà, Samsara Priorat in the DOQ Priorat, Tolo do Xisto in the DO Ribeira Sacra, and Xalar, a vermouth from Catalonia.
