The world-class winekamer Raúl Pérez and the prestigious Galician oenologist Rodrigo Méndez are the producers of Castro Candaz, a varietal Spanish red wine from DO Ribeira Sacra made from Mencía.
The grapes were picked by hand, meticulously selected and macerated whole-bunch for 2 months. Then they were fermented and, after the process was completed, the red wine Castro Candaz 2020 was aged for 6 months in French oak barrels.
This varietal red wine from Ribeira Sacra is a transparent expression of the Mencía variety.
Very limited production.
Appearance | Intense and bright, Castro Candaz is pale purple with a garnet rim. |

Nose | Remembrances of meat, flowers and wild berries, typical of a varietal Mencía wine, with spicy hints and some mineral remembrances. |
Palate | Light-hearted, linear and elegant, with smooth tannins and a great freshness. This wine of Raúl Pérez has a long finish with lively remembrances of wild flowers, herbs and a slightly bitter note. |
Our personal opinion | Supple and joyful, Castro Candaz 2020 is excellent with BBQ'd meats and oily fish dishes. |
