The vines are planted in clay-limestone soils at an altitude over 700 metres above sea level, near the village of L'Ametlla de Segarra. Because of the altitude and the demanding climate, the grapes can ripen slowly and steadily. Cool temperatures also protect them from plagues and diseases.
The Celler Comalats winery, the produced of this Spanish red wine, follows the guidelines of organic viticulture, and also applies several biodynamic farming techniques.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were first macerated for 9 days. This Crianza red wine was then spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks.
After that, the red wine Comalats Cuprum 2021 was transferred into old French and American oak barrels and aged for 16 months. This organic red wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
A compellingly high-altitude Cabernet Sauvignon from western Catalonia, this wine will pair excellently with cured cheeses and meat pasta recipes.
Decant this red wine from Costers del Segre 1 hour before drinking.
The red wine Comalats Cuprum is medium purple with a violet hue.
Like all the wines of Celler Comalats, this varietal Cabernet Sauvignon conveys an enticing sensation of honesty and purity. Blackcurrants and red berries, with hints of tobacco, tea leaves, black pepper and bitter herbs. There is a dim mineral and earthy background.
This wine of Celler Comalats is fresh, energetic and savoury, with ripe tannins and a vibrant acidity. Remembrances of wild berries, spices and toast, with a note of green bell pepper, aromatic herbs and dry earth. Long, complex finish.
