Details
The wine Frontonio La Cerqueta is one of Bodega Frontonio’s Grand Cru wines. The winery is the project of Fernando Mora MW, one of the leading figures of the new wave of Spanish winemakers.
This varietal Spanish red wine is sourced from a 1.18-hectare Grenache plot with slate and limestone soils planted 75+ years ago in La Cerqueta, a lieux-dit sitting at 630 metres of altitude on the outskirts of Alpartir, a village in the Zaragoza province of Aragón.
Besides using animal traction, the Frontonio winery follows the tenets of certified organic agriculture, and is currently in conversion to biodynamic farming (Demeter certification).
The hand-picked grapes went through a full-cluster vinification in open-top concrete vats, with a slow 76- day maceration, during which gentle punch-downs were performed. After finishing the process, this red wine from Valdejalón was aged in oak vats for 14 months.
Bottled in March 2023, the red wine Frontonio La Cerqueta 2021 was stored for over 18 months before hitting the shelves.
