Founded in 1886, the Gómez Cruzado winery is the producer of the wine Gómez Cruzado Reserva, a red Rioja of impeccable pedigree.
Made essentially from over 30-year-old Tempranillo vineyards located near the Sierra Cantabria, this Spanish red wine is complemented with a 10% Grenache sourced from old vines and a 5% Graciano. The three varieties are grown in clay soils rich in iron and in clay-limestone soils of alluvial origin.
In Rioja, the 2014 vintage was quite challenging. After a cold and rainy spring, an early, wet and abnormally hot harvest season put the skills of the vineyard managers to the test. The grapes went through a very meticulous sorting process before being cold-macerated for 3 days and fermented in stainless steel tanks, with daily pump-overs and periodic rackings throughout the process.
After that, the red wine Gómez Cruzado Reserva 2014 was aged for 18 months in new and 2nd year French oak barrels. Before being released onto the market, this red wine from La Rioja was aged for 2 years minimum.

The red wine Gómez Cruzado Reserva is medium purple with some reddish reflections.
This blend of Tempranillo, Grenache and Graciano just screams Rioja. Blackberry and blueberry preserve, with a dash of clove and cardamom, some pipe tobacco and hints of wet undergrowth, smoke and vanilla.
Well-rounded and pleasant, this red wine of bodega Gómez Cruzado has some plush tannins, a lively acidity and a fleshy core of dark fruit, with a long, gently spicy finish with a remembrance of dark berries, herbs and lavender.
