Details

An exciting and unconventional Spanish red wine from DO Monterrei, Galicia, Ladairo Barrica is crafted by Bodegas Ladairo.

It is made mostly from Mencía, complemented with a small amount of Araúxa (a local clone of Tempranillo).

The grapes were harvested by hand and separately vinified. After being macerated and fermented, the wine was blended and transferred into French and American oak barrels.

There, Ladairo Barrica 2020 completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 8 months.

Aerate this red wine from Galicia 30 minutes before drinking.

Pair this red wine from Monterrei with stew recipes and cold cuts.

Appearance

The red wine Ladairo Barrica is deep ruby with some purplish glints.

Nose

This blend of Mencía and Tempranillo is complex and suggestive on the nose. Remembrances of cocoa, smoke and toast that slowly evolve into aromas of red berries, some floral nuances, sweet spices and aromas of menthol, liquorice and withered leaves.

Palate

Displaying plenty of local character, this red wine of Bodegas Ladairo is smooth and silky. Notes of jammy black fruit, pomegranate, violets and orange rind. Lively acidity, mild tannins and long, mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

Galician red wines have a truly distinctive, sort of Atlantic personality. Ladairo Barrica 2020 perfectly showcases this quality.

Value
Commanding red wine, with good flesh and an Atlantic flair. Notes of herbs and blood orange, an iron note... Great!
