Details

Born in the heart of Priorat, Mas d’en Compte Negre is a blended Spanish red wine produced by bodega Celler Cal Pla from vines grown in llicorella (slate) soils on the outskirts of Porrera, in the very heart of the region.

The composition of this Crianza red wine is 50% Grenache, 40% Carignan and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Picked by hand and rigorously selected, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. After that, Mas d'en Compte Negre 2016 was aged in new French oak barrels for 14 months.

Pair this red wine from Priorat with meat recipes and aged cheeses.

Decant 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine Mas d’en Comte Negre has deep, bright, clean puple colour with a reddish rim.

Nose

Initially a sort of Priorat-meets-Bordeaux, this blend of Grenache, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon shows a classically elegant profile, with blackcurrants, cranberries, subtle notes of spices, liquorice and aromatic herbs. The dark minerality and a characteristic remembrance of chinese ink, however, put the wine in a category of its own.

Palate

Full-bodied and intense, this wine from Celler Cal Pla is also round, fresh and mellowed by the years. Oak is very well integrated, and tannins are delicious. Very long finish, with complex remembrances of red and black fruit, aromatic herbs and wet stones.

Our personal opinion

Distinguished and unpretentious, Mas d’en Compte Negre 2016 is a no-nonsense Priorat that even demanding wine aficionados will find delightul.
