Made by the Masia Serra winery from 20-year-old vineyards, the wine Masia Serra IO comes from DO Empordà, Catalonia's northernmost wine region. The area is constantly swept by theTramuntana, a strong northern wind which acts like a natural sanitary agent.
A blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Grenache sourced from certified organic vines, the grapes were handpicked, destemmed and gently crushed.
The alcoholic fermentation of this Spanish red wine took place in stainless steel tanks, and the solid cape of grape skins was periodically punched down to enhance extraction of colour and aromas.
After that, the wine Masia Serra IO 2021 was aged in 1st, 2nd and 3rd year French oak barrels for 12 months.
Incidentally, IO is believed to be the exclamation of joy uttered by the Greek women who worshipped Dionysus, the god of wine.
Aerate this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.
