Made by bodega Merum Priorati, a branch of the Pere Ventura FWS company, the wine Merum Priorati Inici is a splendid introduction to the endless wonders of the Priorat region.
This Spanish red wine is a blend of the traditional varieties Grenache and Carignan, complemented with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, all sourced from estate vineyards composed of very poor llicorella (slate) soils.
The hand-picked grapes were fully destemmed and then macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks for 3 weeks, with periodic manual pump-overs.
After that, this red wine from Priorat was transferred into 225-litre used French oak barrels, in which this vegan wine went through malolactic fermentation.
Then the red wine Merum Priorati Inici 2022 was aged for 12 months in the barrels before being blended and bottled with no fining or filtration.
Decant this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.
