The refined Mina Ratafia de Magnòlies is made by Priorat B&D Lab, a craft distillery that produces high-quality vermouths and spirits.
A traditional, mildly sweet liqueur that is currently experiencing a renaissance in Catalonia, where it has been produced for centuries, this Spanish ratafia is typically made from a neutral base spirit that is infused with aromatic herbs, nuts and orchard fruit, after which it is stored outdoors – a sol i serena – for several weeks.
Interestingly, this ratafia from Priorat is made from a local formula from Bellmunt del Priorat – a village in the famed Priorat wine region of Catalonia - that has passed down through generations. A grape brandy is first macerated with magnolia petals, elderflowers, orange blossoms and green almonds. The concoction is then blended with a brandy macerated with fresh magnolia petals, gently sweetened and kept for some time in diposits to harmonize its components.
Known for their exquisite aroma, the magnolia petals only stay open for one day, wich makes this ratafia from Priorat an exclusive, truly unique product.
On the nose, this Catalan ratafia carries lively aromas of magnolia, orange blossom and elderflower. The palate of Mina Ratafia de Magnòlies is fresh, elegant and mildly sweet, with some bitterish notes and a long finish with an aftertaste of herbs and spices.
A superb digestif, this liqueur from Priorat is an excellent choice for an after-dinner drink.
