Details

The maverick winemaker David Sampedro Gil, founder and owner of bodega DSG Vineyards, crafts the splendid white wine Phincas Thousand Mils from a blend of grapes sorted from two vineyards, Finca Lali and Finca La Abejera, located in Rioja Alavesa.

The main variety of this Spanish white wine is Viura (aka Macabeo), sourced from vineyards planted in 1910. It is complemented with a 25% of MalvasíaWhite Grenache, Palomino and Cayetana, and a 10% of other white varieties.

The harvest of this organic white wine was carried out, as with all of the wines made by David Sampedro – one of La Rioja's new "terroirists" - following the specifications of the biodynamic calendar.

The grapes were destemmed, gently stomped and spontaneously fermented in tanks with native yeasts. After that, Phincas Thousand Mils 2020 was aged for 36 months in French oak barrels with frequent lees-stirrings.

Aerate this white wine from Rioja at least 30 minutes before drinking.

Pair this Crianza white wine with shrimp, white meat dishes and baked fish recipes.

Appearance

The white wine Phincas Thousand Mils is medium yellow with golden and amber tinges.

Nose

Deeply mineral and remarkably complex, this blend of Viura, White Grenache, Malvasía, Palomino, Cayetana and other white varieties suggests hints of white fruit, touches of mint and honey, and notes of exotic spices, white flowers, toasted wood, white tea and balsam.

Palate

The ageing on lees has given this wine from Bodegas Bhilar and DSG Vineyards a luscious mouthfeel that, nevertheless, does not prevent the wine from being fresh. Notes of flowers and citrus, with remembrances of spices over a deep, complex mineral background. Intricate and layered, with a lively acidity and a very long finish.

Our personal opinion

The age-worthy white wine Phincas Thousand Mils 2020 has a truly distinctive personality, reminiscent of the great Rioja whites of yore.

Dear DSG!!

This white wine ought to revolutionize the way Rioja whites are perceived. This is something completely new because it cannot be further from the generic character that almost all Rioja whites, even the very best, display. 5 stars.

A friend gave me this wine as a present. He was super excited about it, but I really didn't know what to expect. Queer name. Unknown producer (for me). Then I opened it, wait about 1 hour and... Wow!! The best white wine I've had in a long time. Deep, multi-layered, fresh. Makes love with your palate and leaves you in awe!
