Product Description
Details

This is bodega Vall Llach's "Grand Cru." In other words, the top Spanish red wine of one of Priorat's top wineries.

This one-of-a-kind wine is sourced from a single vineyard, Mas de la Rosa, located on the outskirts of Porrera, at 600 metres above sea level. This is one of the very few vineyards classfied as Gran Vinya Classificada, the apex of DOQ Priorat's quality pyramid..

South-oriented, the vineyard is planted with centenary vines, firmly rooted in extremely steep, almost unworkable slopes made of the famed, black slate llicorella soil of Priorat.

The 2021 vintage of the wine Vall Llach Mas de la Rosa Gran Vinya Classificada is, as usual, made solely from Carignan. Selected and fully destemmed, the grapes were cold-macerated for 1 day and then fermented in stainless steel tanks.

After that, this red wine from Priorat was aged in concrete eggs and Austrian oak vats for 10 months. It was racked once during the process.

It is crucial to decant the red wine Vall Llach Mas de la Rosa Gran Vinya Classificada 2021 for a substantial period of time -no less than 3 hours- before drinking it.

Only 1,333 bottles produced.

Appearance

The red wine Vall Llach Mas de la Rosa Gran Vinya Classificada is deep purple with a garnet rim.

Nose

Immensely deep, this old-vines Carignan has an unending aromatic richness. The purity of aromas is truly remarkable, with some distilled, pristine notes of wild berries and a seemingly unending parade of nuances, from red and blue flowers and menthol, to spices, liquorice, petricor and a metallic tip. Dim notes of spices and, again, a marvelously intoxicating mineral finish make this a quintessential Priorat red wine.

Palate

This wine of Vall Llach makes one's heart beat faster. Sturdy, wonderfully textured, concentrated and super intense. Palate is phenomenal, though still a bit compressed, and acidity is crisp and laser-like. Minerality is so present that sometimes the wine feels almost like drinking liquid stone. Tannins are ripe, nutritious, and the ending is matched by very few wines. An the wine is only in its beginnings!  Exhilarating.

Our personal opinion

The wine Vall Llach Mas de la Rosa Gran Vinya Classificada 2021 is one of Priorat's absolute best wines. Pricey for sure, but totally world-class.

Struggling, slowly growing in the bottle, but of course not quite there. It needs a full 7 years to begin to come together. By all accounts, this is an investment in the future.

World-class. So deep it is almost frightening. Store and forget for 5 years minimum.

Skynyrd

I've been a follower of this wine year after year. This time I've got myself 4 bottles. Drank one. It is monumental, but still a child. I will store the other three for at least 5 years.
