The wine Verónica Ortega Kinki is an impressive effort by Verónica Ortega, the amazingly talented Andalusian winemaker who is making some of the most refined and expressive wines in the DO Bierzo.
This “Vino de Paraje” is a blend of Mencía with approximately 25% Doña Blanca, Palomino, Godello and Alicante Bouschet (Garnacha Tintorera). The grapes are sourced from a single vineyard 90 to 100 years old with blue slate and red clay soils located in the Paraje La Llamilla – Villa de Congosto, near the village of Cobrana, at 750 metres of altitude, close to the northern boundary of the DO.
The non-destemmed grapes were hand-harvested and co-fermented at the same time – the traditional vinificacion method for field blends like this Spanish red wine - in 5,000-litre truncated cone-shaped diposits, with very gentle macerations and extractions. After that, this red wine from El Bierzo was aged for 8 months in 800-litre amphorae.
The red wine Verónica Ortega Kinki 2024 was bottled shortly before the summer of 2025.
The production of this Crianza red wine is very limited.
