The wine Verónica Ortega Quite is the entry-level red of the amazing Verónica Ortega, a Cádiz-born winemaker who set up shop in the DO Bierzo in 2012.
Made basically from old-vines Mencía (90-100 years of age) and a droplet of Palomino, Doña Blanca and Alicante Bouschet, this Spanish red wine is sourced from several plots with mostly clay soils locatednear Valtuille de Abajo.
This Crianza red wine was vinified in a gentle manner. The partially destemmed grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks, with mild extractions and short macerations. Then the red wine Verónica Ortega Quite 2023 was aged for 10 months in truncanted cone-shaped French oak vats and for 6 months in 500- litre French oak barrels.
This red wine from El Bierzo was bottled in March 2025.
