The personal project of Pepe Raventós in Penedès.

Started in 2017, the Can Sumoi winery is the brainchild of Pepe Raventós, the heir of the Raventós i Blanc family, one of Catalonia's most prestigious wine dinasties. A strong proponent of natural wines and sustainable farming, Pepe spent years searching for a place where he could make terroir-oriented, minimal intervention wines from indigenous varieties. As luck would have it, he found it in his nativeland, tuc ked away in an area called Serra de l'Home, one of the highest and less-explored regions of Penedès.

Perched at over 600 metres of altitude, Bodega Can Sumoi is named after a estate the first writtenment ion of which dates from 1645. A compelling merger of mountainous and Mediterranean landscapes, where forests and pastures are interspersed with olive trees and aromatic plants, the area has sedimentary soils over a milion years old, which are among the oldest in the Iberian Peninsula.

There, the Can Sumoi winery grows exclusively local varieties. The whites are Xarel·lo, Montònega (a high-altitude variant of the Parellada variety) and White Grenache. The red ones are Grenache and Sumoll. The vineyards are tended following strict organic and biodynamic principles, using no wine additives or synthetic chemicals.

The wines of Can Sumoi are vinified with minimal intervention techniques and very low amounts of sulphites. The winery makes both sparkling and still wines, like Can Sumoi Xarel·lo, a varietal white wine, and Can Sumoi La Rosa, a sexy rosé blend.
