Vilarnau

Bodega Vilarnau has quickly become a household name among Cava drinkers.
The winemaking tradition of the Vilarnau family from Sant Sadurní d'Anoia goes back to the XIIth century, from when there is written evidence of a “Vila Arnau” -that is, a country house- dedicated to the production of wine. Nonetheless, the first bottles of Cava under the Bodega Vilarnau brand name were not marketed until 1949, when the Cuscó family started the company. In 1982, it was acquired by grupo González Byass from Jerez, and in 2005 a new technical facility was built in the heart of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia.
The estate vineyards of Bodega Vilarnau cover a surface area of 20 hectares, mainly composed of alluvial soils with layers of lime and clay, and located at an altitude of 250 metres above sea level. Besides the traditional Cava grapes -Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada- the sparkling wines of Vilarnau are made from Trepat, a variety indigenous to the Conca de Barberà region, and the international varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
A well-established Cava producer, the international sells of the Vilarnau winery account for over 70% of its total production.
