In a way, the wine Corteo from the DO Jumilla is the culmination of the Bodegas El Nido project, the joint venture between Gil Family Estates and stellar winemaker Chris Ringland, known for his famed Syrah (or rather Shiraz) wines from Barossa Valley, Australia, the birthplace of some of the world's best Syrah reds.
Made only in outstanding vintages, this varietal red wine from Jumilla is sourced from a 1.8 ha Syrah parcel with very low yields planted in 1998.
The grapes were handpicked and sorted on site and upon reception. After that, this Reserva red wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks, After that, the red wine Corteo 2022 was aged for 23 months in French and American oak barrels.
The production of this Spanish red wine is ridiculously low: only 1,500 bottles.
It is essential to decant this single parcel Syrah at least 2 hours before drinking.

Appearance
The red wine Corteo is deep purple with some bluish reflections.
Nose
This varietal Syrah seamlessly blends a hair-rising intensity with an elegance seldom found in full-bodied reds like this one. Blackberry, plums, crème de cassis and smoke, with hints of tapenade, chocolate mint, spice and blue flowers, underscored by a dash of scrubland, star anise and ground coffee.
Palate
Again, this wine of Viñas Familia Gil and winemaker Chris Ringland is exquisitely bold and massively precise, with phenomenal acidity, a lush, velvety palate and an incredible depth of flavour, showing exquisite integration of oak and a spellbinding, opulent finish.
Our personal opinion
The wine Corteo 2022 is quite an achievement.
