Details

A truly legendary Spanish red wine, the wine El Nido is made in the DO Jumilla by Bodegas El Nido, the joint project started in 2001 by Gil Family Estates and the famed Aussie oenologist Chris Ringland - of Barossa Valley fame.

This blended Crianza red wine is made from 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from a 44- hectare certified organic vineyard with a rocky-limestone topsoil and a sandy subsoil, located at 700+ metres of altitude. The low-yielding Monastrell vines are 70 to 90 years of age; the Cabernet Sauvignon was planted 40 years ago.

Each variety was separately vinified in stainless steel tanks and barrels. After completing the malo in barrels, this organic and vegan red wine from Jumilla was aged for 22-24 months in French and American oak barrels.

Once bottled, the red wine El Nido 2023 was stored for some months before hitting the market.

It is essential to decant this organic red wine at least 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The red wine El Nido is deep purple with a reddish reflection.

Nose

This blend of old vine Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon has amazing depth and intensity, displaying a deep mineral core and notes of aromatic herbs intertwined with juicy blackcurrants, blackberries and damson, hints of clove, vanilla tobacco and incense, and a touch of dark chocolate and leather.

Palate

This wine by Bodegas El Nido-Viñas Familia Gil winery boasts incredible natural concentration, a laser-like acidity and a compelling mineral intensity that, nonetheless, comes across as balanced and poised. Exquisite tannic frame, with impeccable integration of oak and spellbinding finish, which goes on forever.

Our personal opinion

The wine El Nido 2023 is one of the great Spanish reds. Superb!
