Red Wine Figuerals Samsó 2017

In May 2018, after 14 years mapping and studying the different terroirs of his vineyards, Josep Grau Viticultor released a series of five single estate wines. They are, so to speak, Josep Grau Viticultor Premier Cru wines.
All of them are crafted from vineyards located in the Serra d'Almos, in the southern area of the DO Montsant. Among them there are two Spanish red wines that come from the same estate, called finca Figuerals. On made from Samsó (Carignan) and one from Grenache.
The wine Figuerals Samsó is made from organically farmed vineyards 35-40 years of age, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and planted on terraces.
Selected three times, the grapes underwent alcoholic fermentation in a 2,000-litre Stockinger Austrian oak vat. There, Figuerals Samsó 2016 completed an ageing period of 16 months.
Decant this red wine from Montsant 1 hour before drinking. Drink over the next 8 years.

The red wine Figuerals Samsó has an intensely ruby colour with some violet tinges.
Intensely aromatic, expressive and mineral, this Carignan from Montsant smells of black fruit, raw cocoa, red pepper, aromatic herbs and Mediterranean herbs over a mineral, gently toasted background.
Smooth-textured and with plenty of detail, this red wine by Josep Grau has an exhilarating palate, linear, well-defined and inviting at the same time. Aromatic herbs, some creamy and spicy notes, remembrances of vegetables and some luminous mineral and earthy tips. Figuerals Samsó has a superb acidity, with some lively tannins and a very long, complex finish.
