Produced by the Jean Leon winery, the wine Jean Leon Vinya Gigi is a celebrated Spanish white wine from DO Penedès.
A varietal Chardonnay named after Jean leon's daughter, Gigi, this Vino de Finca (single vineyard wine) is made from grapevines planted in 1965. The 5-hectare vineyard has a very compact soil that makes it difficult for water to soak through and reach the roots.
Thus, the vines suffer from a healthy hydric stress that helps them to concentrate colour and aromas.
Harvested by hand and carefully selected, the grapes were destemmed and gently crushed. After that, a portion of this vegan wine was fermented in French oak barrels, and the rest in 2,000-litre vats and egg-shaped concrete diposits. Then the wine Jean Leon Vinya Gigi 2024 was aged on lees for 6 months.
After that, this organic white wine was aged for a further 6 months in the bottle.
Interestingly, this was the first white wine fermented and aged in oak produced in Spain.
