Yamazaki

Yamazaki

The oldest whisky distillery in Japan.

The Yamazaki distillery, one of the world’s most appreciated whisky brands, was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, who was responsible for introducing whisky production in Japan.

After visiting Scotland, Mr. Torii decided to create a whisky that was suited to the Japanese taste, which appreciates subtlety, elegance and richness of nuance above everything else. To achieve his goal, he decided to build his distillery in an area of amazing natural beauty fed with abundant springwater of great purity. Known in the past as “Minaseno”, the area is situated near Kyoto, the former imperial capital.

Because of its being located on the confluence of three rivers, the area has a humid and misty climate that provides very special conditions for whisky maturation in oak casks. This is another feature that makes the whiskies of the Yamazaki distillery stand out among its competitors.

Over the years, the master blenders of the Yamazaki distillery tirelessly fine-tuned their skills, reaching amazing heights and achieving the highest level of craftmanship to produce the absolute best Japanes whisky. Nowadays, there are many whisky aficionados around the world who consider the Yamazaki whisky to be at least as good, if not better, than the very best Scotch whisky.
