Availability: In stock
The red wine Pasanau La Morera de Montsant explores a lesser-known, intriguing side of the Priorat region – that which lies outside the boundaries of the world-famous slate (llicorella) soils.
Made by bodega Pasanau, this Vi de Vila ('Village Wine') is sourced from three plots of Grenache with an average age of 25 years, located near the village of La Morera del Montsant, at roughly 700 metres above sea level. At that altitude, the soils are not composed of llicorella, but of sandstone and calcareous cement.
Harvested in mid September, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel taks for 28 days with daily pump-overs. After that, this Crianza red wine was transferred into French oak barrels, where it was aged for 8 months.
Bottled in April 2023, the red wine Pasanau La Morera de Montsant 2021 was cellared for no less than 2 years before hitting the market.
Aerate this red wine from Priorat before drinking.
| Appearance | The red wine Pasanau La Morera de Montsant is deep ruby with some reddish glints. |
|---|---|
| Nose | Lifted and expansive, this Grenache from high-altitude vines smells of thyme and rosemary, with a dash of chinese ink and wet stones, a compact layer of raspberries and sour cherries and some restrained notes of spice and toast. |
| Palate | Fluidity and concentration nicely combine in this wine from Pasanau winery, with a linear mid palate, a vibrant, almost tactile sensation, smooth tannins and a mountain air freshness. Long, deeply mineral finish. |
| Our personal opinion | The wine Pasanau La Morera de Montsant 2021 shows that there is more to Priorat than dark slate. |
