Red Wine Ponce Pino 2024
Availability: In stock
The wine Ponce Pino is one of the of Bodegas Ponce, a family winery that has gained international fame from the little-known region of DO Manchuela, which comprises parts of the Cuenca and Albacete provinces in central Spain.
This varietal Spanish red wine is made from Bobal, a tannic and high-acidic indigenous variety that most think has its best interpreter in winemaker Juan Antonio Ponce. The grapes are sourced from a single 40- year-old vineyard with limestone soils planted at 800 metres of altitude.
The grapes went through a whole-cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts in oak vats. After that, this red wine from DO Manchuela was transferred into a 3,500-litre French oak vat, in which it was aged for some months.
The red wine Ponce Pino 2024 from DO Manchuela was stored for some time in the cellar before hitting the market.
Roughly 4,000 bottles produced.
Aerate this Crianza red wine some time before drinking.
| Appearance | The red wine Ponce Pino is deep ruby with some purple reflections. |
|---|---|
| Nose | The slightly austere and decidedly original character of the Bobal variety shines through. Blackcurrants and Kirsch liqueur, with hints of tapenade, bitter herbs and pine needles, underpinned by a smokey and wooden-spicy note. |
| Palate | Structured and bright, this single vineyard red wine of Bodegas Ponce winery has an effortless natural concentration and a complexity that is just beginning to unfurl. Textured and vibrant, with chewy tannins and a long finish with some smokey herbiness and chalky fleck. |
| Our personal opinion | The wine Ponce Pino 2024 is complex, original and ageworthy. A beautiful wine from a virtually unknown region. |
