Details

The wine O Raio da Vella Caíño Tinto is an Atlantic Spanish red wine that originates in the lush lands of northern Spain – an area of the country appropriately known as “Green Spain.”

Made from Caíño Tinto, a red variety indigenous to the DO Rías Baixas, the grapes are sourced from trellis-trained vineyards planted in sandy and granitic soils at very low altitudes - near sea level, actually – a fact that imparts a distinctively saline note to this Crianza red wine.

The hand-harvested grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts. Then the red wine Rodrigo Méndez O Raio da Vella Caíño Tinto 2023 matured for 12 months in French oak barrels.

After bottling, this red wine from Rías Baixas was kept for some months in the cellar before hitting the market.

We suggest aerating this Galician red wine some time before drinking.

Nose

Quite distinctive, this varietal Caíño Tinto has some lively herbiness and saltiness underpinning the crunchy sour red cherries, with a dash of black pepper and citrus and some spicy and creamy brushstrokes.

Palate

Mineral tension, umami salinity and herbal freshness are the defining features of this red wine by Rodrigo Méndez, which boasts a superb acidity, with powdery tannins and a detailed texture. Finish carries some spicy and balsamic suggestions and elegant hints of dried flowers.
