Augustus

Bodega Augustus, also known as Celler Avgvstvs Forvm, was founded in the late XXth century in El Vendrell (Tarragona), DO Penedès. The winery is situated in the heart of what in Roman times was known as the Tarraconensis province, the capital of which was Tarraco - the ancient name of modern-day Tarragona – one of the most importnant Roman cities in the Iberian Peninsula.

The bulk of the Augustus winery estate vineyards are situated in the Baix Penedès subzone, in an area formerly traversed by the Via Augusta, the Roman road that connected the Iberian and the Italian Peninsula. Those vineyards have limestone soils and a strong influence of the Mediterranean Sea. The winery also has vineyards in higher areas of Penedés, like Garraf, Massís del Bonastre and Can Benet de la Prua, an area planted with centenary vines.

Bodega Augustus cultivates a wide range of grape varieties. The red varieties are mostly international ones, such as Cab. Sauvignon, Merlot and Cab. Franc, with some local ones like Grenache and Ull de Llebre (aka Tempranillo). The white varieties are basically local cultivars, like Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Malvasia de Sitges, with the exception of Chardonnay.

It should be noted that all the estate-owned vineyards of the Avgvstvs Forvm winery have an organic certification issued by the CCPAE (the Catalan official body responsible for certifying organic production). Furthermore, the Augustus winery is also a member of the international association “Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection.”

Besides wine production, the Augustus winery also makes quality olive oils and wine vinegars under the Forvm brand that enjoy a great reputation among prestigious chefs, both in Spain and abroad. The winery currently sells its products in 40+ countries around the globe.
