Llopart

Winegrowers in Penedès since the XIVth century.
The first written record of the winegrowing tradition of the Llopart family dates from a latin document written in 1385, where one Bernardus Leopardi (Bernat Llopart) was transferred a vineyard located within the current boundaries of Heredad Can Llopart. The family estate, which has a surface area of 500 hectares, is located in the village of Subirats, in the heart of Penedès.
Wine production became the main activity of the Llopart family from the late XVIIIth century onwards. In 1887, Mr Pere Massana released the first Spanish sparkling wine bearing the same label that all of the sparklings wines by Cavas Llopart still bear nowadays. The XXth witnessed the consolidation of the Llopart winery as one of Spain's best sparkling wine producers. In 1958, the company inaugurated the aging cellar, in 1975 the family refurbished the masia, or country house, in 1980 the first Llopart Brut Nature was launched onto the market, and in 1999 the same happened with Llopart Ex Vite, the winery's flasghip Spanish sparkling wine. As for the XXIth century, Bodega Llopart was one of the founding members of the Corpinnat association of quality sparkling wine producers from Penedès, established in 2018.
Tended with certified organic techniques, the vineyards of Cavas Llopart occupy a surface area of 102 hectares, the best and oldest of which are located in Paratge Les Flandes, a lieux-dit where the winery sources its best grapes. An impressive natural amphiteatre covering a surface area around 7 hectares situated on the western tip of Serra d'Ordal, at 380 metres of altitude, Les Flandes is dividied into three main vineyards: Vinya del Ticu (planted with high-altitude Parellada, known as Montònega); Vinya del Pere de Can Ros (planted with Xarel·lo and Macabeo) and Vinya del Isidoro (planted with Xarel·lo).
Surrounded by Mediterranean forests and aromatic herbs, the north-oriented vines grow in clay- limestones soils interspersed with marine fossils, in an area with huge temperature differences between daytime and nighttime, which allow the grapes to ripen slowly and steadily.
The product portfolio of Llopart winery is mostly comprised of vintage Corpinnat sparkling wines aged for a substantial period of time. Besides several well-known, impeccable mid-tier sparklers like Llopart Panoràmic and Llopart Leopardi, lovers of serious bubbles should definitely try Llopart Original 1887, aged for 100+ months and sporting a charming vintage label, as well as the remarkable Llopart Llegat Familiar, aged for over 13 years.
Besides the Corpinnat sparkling wines product line, the catalogue of bodega Llopart includes a collection of still wines, grape must and pétillant wines made from local varieties, gathered under the moniker La Vida Secreta de les Plantes.
