Corpinnat

Corpinnat

The Designation of Origin Corpinnat was created in April 2018 with the aim of giving official recognition to the sparkling wines from Penedès made exclusively from fully organic, hand-picked, estate-bottled high-quality grapes.

Currently, the Corpinnat vineyards totalize 22,966.12 hectares, owned by the following producers: Gramona, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca, Torelló, Can Feixes, Júlia Bernet, Mas Candí and Can Descregut.

The wineries gathered under the Corpinnat collective brand are deeply committed to environmental sustainability. Because of that, all the Corpinnat sparkling wines must be produced from hand-harvested, certified organic grapes.

The Corpinnat producers are strong believers in the potential of the traditional varieties of Penedès. Besides their capacity to convey a real sense of place due to its adaptation to the environment, they are best suited to face the challenges posed by climate change.

As a consequence, the Corpinnat regulations determine that the Corpinnat sparkling wines must contain a 90% minimum of the following traditional varieties: Xarel·lo, Macabeo, Parellada, Malvasía, Monastrell, Grenache and Sumoll. The non-traditional varieties Chardonnay, Pinot and Trepat shall not exceed a 10% of the final blend.

All of the organic sparkling wines bearing the Corpinnat label must be aged for over 18 months minimum. In practice, though, many Corpinnat wines are aged for periods of 30 to 60 months. This fact bears witness to the commitment of all Corpinnat wineries to quality and viticultural sustainability.

The Corpinnat sparkling wines are classified according their sugar content, whether added or naturally occurring. From lowest to highest content, the categories are Brut Nature, Extra Brut, Brut, Extra Seco, Seco, Semiseco and Dulce.

As for the name Corpinnat, it is a composite of  “Cor” (Catalan for “heart”), and “Pinnat”, a reference to “Pinnae”, the latin word which is the origin of the “Penedès” toponym. In short, Corpinnat is the heart of Penedès.

Red wine varieties: Monastrell, Grenache, Sumoll, Pinot Noir, Trepat.

White wine varieties: Xarel·lo, Macabeo, Parellada, Malvasía, Chardonnay.
