Dos Dedos de Frente 2020
The wine Dos Dedos de Frente is the most cosmopolitan of all the wines made by the Scottish Master of Wine Norrel Robertson through his winemaking project in the DO Calatayud, bodega El Escocés Volante.
This Spanish red wine is made from the typical blend of the Côte Rotie wine region; namely, Syrah (94%) and Viognier (6%). The grapes are sourced from Finca del Val, a single vineyard with pudding stone soils planted in 2000 near the village of Villarroya de la Sierra, at 950 metres of altitude.
Both varieties were handpicked in mid September, refrigerated and cold-macerated for 6 days before being cofermented with periodic pump-overs and punch-downs. After that, this Crianza red wine was aged for 14 months in old 650 litre French oak pipes, 500 litre old puncheons and 500-litre used Stockinger barrels.
The red wine Dos Dedos de Frente 2020 was bottled on March 23rd, 2023. Sold under the Vino de España label, it was cellared for a couple of years before being launched onto the market.
