Details

The wine Casa Castillo El Molar is a noteworthy red from bodega Casa Castillo, one of DO Jumilla’s best producers.

This varietal Spanish red wine is made solely from Grenache, a variety that is quite rare in southeastern Spain, a part of the country where Monastrell reigns supreme. The grapes are sourced from three organically certified vineyards around 20 years of age with limestone and sandy soils, planted on the foothills of the El Molar mountain range.

The hand-harvested grapes were patially destemmed. This organic  red wine from Jumilla was fermented with wild yeasts in stone vats, after it which it completed the malo in oak barrels.

After that, the red wine Casa Castillo El Molar 2023 was aged for 15 months in 500-litre oak barrels and 5,000-litre oak vats.

Once bottled, this red wine from Jumilla was stored for 12 months minimum before hitting the market.

Appearance

The red wine Casa Castillo El Molar is deep ruby with some violet reflections.

Nose

This varietal Grenache is rich and talkative, carrying blackberries, amarena cherries and redcurrants, with some floral and herbal notes and a dash of white pepper.

Palate

Precise and richly layered, with a bright chalky streak underpinning the fruit, some savoury pepperiness and powdery tannins. This wine of Casa Castilla winery ends with note of Mediterranean underbrush and exotic spices.

Our personal opinion

The wine Casa Castillo El Molar 2023 is definitely on a par with many Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache wines twice its price.
